Architecture and Property copy

Iain AItch Dwell article

I have long been interested in modern architecture and was fortunate enough to become a contributor (and later, London Editor) for Dwell magazine in the US from their first year, some 20-years-ago. It now has a circulation of over 330,000.

Since 2000, I have written dozens of pieces for them, covering everything from new homes to historic refurbs, and topics as specialist as eco-ventilation and traditional Swedish roof tiling techniques. My work for Dwell has ranged from visiting anywhere from luxury homes to council estates in the UK and design shows across Europe. I have interviewed architects from around the globe, including the likes of Peter Zumthor.

This work led me to write on architecture, design and property for titles such as the Guardian and Sunday Times, as well more property business-related material for newspapers such as the Daily Telegraph and clients such as JLL. I have also authored the lead essay for (and given the title to) a book about the late architect Gerrard O’Carroll.

I have written property and construction blogs for the Rated People brand (as well as writing all their web content for a brand relaunch), consulted for Checkatrade and created the initial copy and blog plan for MyBuilder. See here for more on my construction industry copy.

I am expert in writing profiles of homes and their owners, often working alongside in-house or freelance photographers. I have worked with architects, designers, developers and planners to create engaging copy that is a cut above the normal simple blurbs. I can create profiles for individual architectural projects, or build a tone-of-voice and profile across a whole website or publicity campaign.

My writing will help your business stand out more than mere photographs ever could.

I form a rapport with owners, architects and designers to create a story about a home, its architect and its owners, painting a picture of a house and its surroundings. My work is about where people and buildings meet and draws the reader in, whether they are architects, clients, developers or buyers.
